Wait My Soul in Silence

by Cyprian Consiglio (vocal and guitar) with Laurence Freeman

An innovative disc combining music and readings, Wait My Soul, in Silence is a gentle but powerful introduction to the practice of Christian meditation.

The CD contains six four-track suites, each opening with an inspiring three-minute talk by Laurence Freeman. Cyprian provides soothing background music on acoustic guitar. Then a bell tones three times to signal the time for silent meditation. A song and a reading from Scripture, both reflecting back on the talk, bring the meditation to a close.

As Cyprian and Laurence explain in the CD booklet, there are two different ways to use the disc. One may simply listen straight through, from beginning to end, turning the entire collection into a meditative experience.

The other option is to use one of the suites for a meditation period. When the bell sounds after the initial reading, simply press pause, spend the desired time in meditation, then hit play again to hear the song and Scripture reading.

Though each talk addresses specific topics (spiritual childhood, learning to unlearn, purification), they all provide a general introduction to or foundation in Christian meditation.

Camaldolese Benedictine Father Cyprian Consiglio, well known as a liturgical composer, wrote and performed all 12 songs and instrumentals. Benedictine Father Laurence Freeman is the director of the World Community for Christian Meditation, a global contemplative network inspired by the teachings of fellow Benedictine John Main.

The important aim in Christian meditation, John Main taught, is to allow Gods mysterious and silent presence within us to become more and more not only a reality but the reality which gives meaning, shape and purpose to everything we do, everything we are.

Many Christians who are curious about meditation hesitate to try it for lack of a good teacher. Offering wisdom and guidance from two Benedictine priests, both experienced meditation leaders, Wait My Soul, in Silence is a great way to start.
